Scholastic Bookfairs:
There were 2 Scholastic Bookfairs held for the 2011/2012 School Year. In both the Bookfairs we were not able to make enough to profit any cash return. All of the profits that were made for Pennypacker Elementary School were in Scholastic Dollars. With these Scholastic Dollars we are only able to purchase items from the Scholastic website. The selection was very limited.
It was decided by the Voting Home and School Association Members present, that the Home and School Association of Pennypacker Elementary School will not conduct another Scholastic Bookfair for the 2011/2012 school year.
Talent Show:
The 2011/2012 Pennypacker Talent Show will be held on June 1, 2012. During the Talent Show the HSA will sell water, soda and snacks to invest in the 2011/2012 Cougar Day.
Report Card Grill:
A Bar-B-Q will be held during the report card conferences on May 2, 3, 4. The food will be cooked outside in the school yard. It will begin at 11:50 am. The items to be sold will be hotdogs, hamburgers, soda, chips. The additional items needed will be hotdog buns, hamburger buns, ketchup, mustard, relish, napkins, foil.
Bake Sale:
To be held April 17, 18, 19. Items to be sold will be purchased from the Shoprite in Cheltenham Mall. We will make a request to the parents for donations of money or purchased baked items.
Cougar Day:
To be held on June 6, 2012. The goal of the HSA is to be able to make this year’s event even better than last year. Our proposed games are as follows:
Hula Hoop Competition: who ever can hula the longest wins a prize. i.e. water ice, pretzel, soda of their choice
Sponge Dodge Ball: Same as regular dodge ball, but, instead of a ball we will use large wet sponges
Sack Race: Same thing as a potato sack race. It was suggested that we use donated king sized pillow cases
Break Dancing: We will play hip-hop music while students break dance (Not a competition).
Graduation Ceremonies:
It has not been decided what the Home and School Association will do for the 2011/2012 graduating class. It has been suggested that we give each student a nominal Visa Gift Card or some type of basket filled with various treats and baubles.

Site Selection Committee:
During the meeting this was very brief in discussion. Here is the information on this Committee.
This is a new entity that has been presented this school year. It is run by parent volunteers, much like the Home and School Association. We are looking for volunteers for this committee. If there are any parents would or could spare the time, please contact the HSA. More detail about this committee will be available after the Holiday Break.
Budget:
Every General Meeting, a Treasurer’s Report will be presented. Due to a complete lack of funds, there are no reports thus far.
There was a lot of talk about a bank account from last year’s HSA. The Executive Team has done research on this issue matter. The findings were as follows:
The alleged bank account, according to the bank was not listed as any type of bank account from Pennypacker.
According to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Pennypacker Elementary does not have an official bank account.
Therefore, we must start from zero and a new account.
Principal’s Report:
Black History Month Project:
Our Faith-Based Partner, Pastor John, from Calvary Assembly of God will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro (Kili-Climb) to raise $10,000.00 in order to support drilling wells for clean drinking water in Kenya, Africa.
Pennypacker students, staff and family members can purchase Kili-Climb T-Shirts to support this effort. T-Shirts can be worn to school on $1 Dress-Down Day. All funds raised by Pennypacker Elementary will go directly to Kili-Climb effort for the wells for clean drinking water in Kenya, Africa.
The cost of the T-Shirt is $13.00 each.
Please see the main office or Mrs. Burnley for more details.
HSA Faculty Representative:
Principal and Executive selected Mrs. Campbell to be the HAS Faculty Representative.
The Faculty Representative attends the Executive Board Meetings and the General Membership meetings.
New Business:
Ø Recap of last General Monthly Meeting
Ø Membership Fundraiser
o $5.00 per family, per school year – One (1) vote per family who has paid their yearly dues
o Fundraiser is ongoing. There is no end date.
o The goal of this fundraiser is to raise enough money to pay for the insurance that is required for us to hold additional fundraisers. The sooner that we get the insurance; the sooner we can hold more fundraisers for the students.
o We also encourage Pennypacker Staff to support the HSA by becoming non-voting members
o There is a background check required for all family members who wish to participate in any fundraising activities
